Ash and Charlotte | ||
Ash the pet rat was in search of some cheese. Where could he find it with greatest of ease? Not in the kitchen, for it was swept neat. Not in the garden, or out in the street. He went a-sniffing all over the place, Taking it easy, it wasn't a race. Finally he found it right out in the trash. It was uncovered, an act very rash. It was some cheese that once fell on the floor. Ash didn't care; he'd be happy for more. After he ate it he went back inside, Climbed on his wheel and took off on a ride. When he was sleepy he lay down to rest, Getting some shut-eye so he'd feel his best. When he awoke it was time for a walk. He wanted company so he could talk. Charlotte the cat said she'd like to go, too. Since she was feeling a tiny bit blue. When they had gone a short way in the sun, Ash said that he wasn't having much fun. "The sun is too bright for my eyes," he declared. Charlotte said "Well Ash, you must be prepared." So they both stopped at an animal store, Where they found beautiful products galore. Ash bought some sunglasses bordered in pink. Charlotte bought apple juice ready to drink. Ash looked quite sporty in glasses of pink. He said, "They make me look younger, I think." Off they then went to explore in the wood. Both of them said they were feeling quite good. Soon they were traveling out of the town, On a small path that climbed up and then down. Coming at last to a house in the wood, Made out of something to taste very good. It was constructed of crackers and cheese! Cat and rat thought it was put there to please. They took some nibbles and then ate some more, But it was always as big as before. "This house is magic," said Ash with a smile. "Why don't we stay here and eat for a while." After they feasted an hour or two, Charlotte and Ash didn't know what to do. They got so sick they were both turning green, Then went on home to tell what they had seen. They felt so sick that they wanted to cry. Mother suspected the tale was a lie. "Next time," she said, "take a picture for me! Then I will know what you really did see. | ||
