Goals

We sometimes set our goals too high
And cannot reach them, though we try.
Perhaps we climb up half the stair
By dint of sweat and fervent prayer.
Is this a sign we should pull back
Our goals to a more modest tack?
Or should we ev'ry challenge face
And keep on striding in the race?
When nothing's ventured, nothing's gained,
Although our strength be sometimes strained.
Our grasp may never fit our reach
But that's a lesson life can teach.
