Tiger Jim

There was a tiger in the wood
Who scared the kids as best he could.
But every time he tried to roar
The kids thought that was just a snore.
When Christopher approached the beast
He was not frightened in the least.
"Why do you shed those tiger tears?"
The tiger said, "'Cause I'm not fierce."
"That's quite all right," said Christopher,
"A friendly beast I much prefer."
So Christopher became his friend
And walked the forest end to end.
The tiger said his name was Jim,
And Christopher just followed him.
They both decided they would race.
Swift Jim, of course, came in first place.
"It's easy, Christopher," he said.
"I have four legs, you've two instead.
Why don't you take a little rest?
I'll carry you, now don't protest."
So Christopher climbed on Jim's back
And off they went to find the pack.
Before too long they found a tree
That sheltered all Jim's family.
"Who is this boy upon your back?
Does he a home and fam'ly lack?"
"Why, no," said Jim, "He has a home.
He merely came the woods to roam.
His name is Christopher, you see,
And he's been very nice to me."
So Papa tiger, Mama too,
And Jimmy's little sister Sue
All welcomed him up in their tree
And kissed his face quite happily.
They offered him a piece of meat,
A rabbit they had killed to eat.
But Christopher declined the game.
He said, "I like my rabbits tame."
When tigers finished their repast
They said, "Let's take a journey fast.
We go to visit Uncle Joe,
A forest resident, you know."
So Christopher just tagged along,
And joined a happy little song.
But all at once they saw a sight
That filled their hearts with lots of fright.
A hissing cobra barred the path.
He seemed to be consumed with wrath.
But Christopher was not afraid.
His bravery was well displayed.
He said, "Let's give a fearsome roar
And scare that Cobra evermore."
They roared as one and Cobra fled
To hide at home beneath his bed.
Before they had a chance to sing,
They came upon the Jungle King.
The lion said "How do you do?
I am so pleased to welcome you.
You're safe in here where e'er you go.
No need to any tantrums throw."
