Jack the Parrot

The jungle hides a baby bear
Who wandered from his cozy lair.
He's lost and cannot find his way,
And has no one with whom to play.
The bear is crying desp'rately.
He wants again his Mom to see.
Just then a friendly parrot came
And asked the bear if he was tame.
"Of course," he said, "but I am lost.
Please help me and don't count the cost."
"All right," the parrot said, "come on."
And soon the two were quickly gone.
Before the two had gone a mile
The bear began to sweetly smile.
"You're such a helpful bird," he said.
The parrot smiled and bobbed his head:
"You're very welcome, little friend!
On me you surely can depend."
And sure enough before too long
They saw a Mama Bear in song.
"Why Baby Bear, where did you go?
We've searched for you both high and low."
He said, "When I was out at play
I didn't watch, and lost my way.
This friendly parrot gave me cheer
And brought me safely back to here.
Then Mama Bear said, "Thanks, good parrot,
For your trouble here's a carrot.
Tell me, please, what is your name?"
"Jack," he said, "and I'm quite tame."
Jack the parrot then said "Bye,"
Flying off toward the sky.
Soon he saw a sight below
Causing him his speed to slow.
There he saw an elephant
Groaning with a loud lament.
"Hi," said Jack, "What's wrong with you?"
"I broke my toe and it is blue.
I tripped upon a little stone,
And fell and cracked my poor toe bone.
"Just stay right there," said friendly Jack.
"I'll get some help and be right back."
He flapped his wings to make a breeze
And flew away above the trees.
Before too long Jack reappeared.
He brought a doctor with a beard.
The doctor opened up his kit
And found a cast for perfect fit.
He put it on the elephant
And helped him walk to find his tent.
The pachyderm sat on a block
And gave his thanks for bird and doc.
But Jack could not remain for tea.
He had another place to be.
The parrots' club was set to meet,
So Jack took off. He was so fleet.
He came to where the parrots met!
A tree where they were proudly set.
They sang a happy parrot song
With 20 voices squawking strong.
They sang of parrot loyalty,
And how they always friends would be.
They then told tales of what they'd done,
And what they did for daily fun.
When Jack said he had helped a bear
And shown an elephant some care
The other parrots squawked for joy:
"Hooray, dear Jack, you good old boy."
So Jack felt great and flew away
To help some other folks that day.
And as this little poem ends,
Jack sought to make some more new friends.
