Thigbert the Moose | ||
Thigbert the moose lived away in the wood, Eating the berries and leaves that were good. He was best known for his big fuzzy nose And for the many companions he chose. Thigbert had friends in the air, land, and sea, Always endeavoring their friend to be. He gladly shared all his food with the rest! Not just the scraps, but a lot of the best. When they complained that they needed a boat, Thigbert just showed them how well he could float. Twenty-nine neighbors all climbed on his back, Knowing for certain that it wouldn't crack. Thigbert then ferried them over the lake. It was the easiest course he could take. When they arrived on the opposite side Riders thanked moose for a very nice ride. Once 'cross the lake they espied a large sign Bidding them flee from a dangerous mine. Just as they started to feel a strong draft Ten of the kids disappeared down a shaft. Thigbert appealed to them not to lose hope. He had discovered a very long rope. Tying it fast to a sycamore tree, He threw it down so the kids could climb free. "Thank you, kind Thigbert," they said with a shout. "You were a kind moose to help us get out." Then Thigbert took them all back o'er the lake Where they could pause for some cookies and cake. While they were eating a tiger came by, Feeling so sad he was starting to cry. "What is the matter," said Thigbert with care. "What is the cause of your abject despair?" Tiger replied he was lost in the wood, Helpless to find any path that he should. He wanted badly to find his own den, Up in the mountain, well hidden from men. Thigbert said, "Tiger friend, do not despair, We will direct you so you find your lair." Tiger stopped crying and followed the moose. He was a smarty, not one bit obtuse. While they were walking it started to snow. They were uncertain just which way to go. Thigbert asked help from a pretty blue bird. She showed the way without saying a word. When they arrived at the tiger's fine lair He bid them all take some shelter in there. Thigbert and twenty-nine friends went inside, Glad that the cave was so comfy and wide. Tiger invited them all to have tea. Cookies and cakes were all added for free. After a while, when the sun showed its face, They took their leave and departed the place. Bird showed them how to get back to the wood. She led them swiftly, as best as she could. Thigbert had all of his friends on his back, Following carefully in the bird's track. When they got home they were ready to rest. All thanked kind Thigbert for giving his best. "You're very welcome," said Thigbert the moose. "Ask me a favor, I will not refuse." | ||
