Grieving

I walked into a lonely room
And met a lonely man.
I knew that I must pierce the gloom
In every way one can.
I asked him "What is troubling you?"
"I'm widowed," he replied.
I said, "You've had a blow, that's true,
Because your wife has died."
I knew that words would not console
So I just held his hand.
He said, "You're soothing to my soul.
I'm glad you understand."
