Albert the Camel | ||
Andrew and Karen and Christopher, too, Went for an outing to visit the zoo. They saw the elephants waving their ears. Tigers and lions did not cause them fears. Seals were all barking, and monkeys were cut. One of them seemed to be playing a flute. Then, to their joy, when they came round the bend They soon discovered a very dear friend. Albert the camel sure gave them a smile. They hadn't seen him in such a long while. "Look," he said, "See how our family has grown. Kim and I now have two kids of our own." Standing beside them were Sally and Joe, Two camel kids who were raring to go. Christopher asked, "How's life in the zoo?" Albert replied, "There is not much to do. All we can do is watch people go by. We get so bored that we almost could cry." Karen said, "Why don't you come out with us?" Andrew then opened their cage with no fuss. Albert and Kim came with Sally and Joe. Where they were going they did not quite know. "Bye," said the zookeeper, "Come back by dark." Off they all went to the woods in the park. Merrily walking along like a train, They were surprised when it started to rain. Lightning was flashing all helter and skelter. They found a cave that afforded good shelter. Albert said, "This might be somebody's house." Kim said, "It smells like it's more than a mouse." Then came the roar of a very large bear. "What are you doing right here in my lair?" Karen said, "We didn't know you were here! Maybe it's best if we just disappear." Christopher thought he had better explain: "We were just fleeing the lightning and rain." "Well," said the bear, in a much kinder voice, "I am so glad that you made this your choice." "I'm not accustomed to having a guest! I spend my days here in reading and rest." Noting that Albert was shaking with fear, Softly the bear said, "You're all safe in here." As a good host he served honey and bread, Then soon selected a book to be read. He read them quite a few stories in rhyme. Camels and kids had a marvelous time. "Well," said young Andrew, "You're most kind, you know. But it's stopped raining!we really must go." Albert went first, next came Kim, Sally, Joe. Children were next, and they weren't very slow. Soon they discovered a butterfly blue, Proud of its home in an old lady's shoe. Butterfly led them right out of the park So they got back to the zoo before dark. "Thanks," said the camels, "The trip was just great. And we got back in our cage before eight." "Bye," said the kids, "We are so glad you came. We liked the bear, for he really was tame. We shall return on another fine day So you once more can get out for some play." | ||
