Beverly the Talking Horse
Beverly the talking horse Took Andrew for a ride. He was on her back, of course, And didn't need a guide. After they had gone a mile The rain began to fall. Then they had to stop a while Beside a cottage small. In the house there lived a pig All spotted red and blue. He was not so very big, And he wore one shoe. "Come inside a bit," he bid. "You'll find it is quite dry." Beverly and Andrew did, And pig began to cry. "What is troubling you, kind pig? Why do you seem so sad? Won't you dance with us a jig, For that would make us glad?" "No, I cannot dance with you, Although I wish I could. Sadly I have lost a shoe And I don't feel so good." Beverly and Andrew said, "We'll help you find that shoe." Under every chair and bed They searched the whole house through. Pig said, "That was very kind, But now that you are through! Nothing will you ever find, You see, I ate my shoe." Beverly said, "Never fear, I know just what to do." Then she whispered in pig's ear And he spit out that shoe. Andrew was quite mystified, So Beverly explained: "'Tis a secret I have tried, For I've been spec'ly trained." Pig was thankful for the deed, And had them stay for tea. They on apple tarts did feed, As happy as could be. Andrew asked, "Why did you eat Your shoe instead of this?" Pig replied, "It was a treat I could not bear to miss." "Well, my pig," said Beverly, "I must confess that you Look very weird, my friend, to me, Because you're red and blue." Pig said, "Never judge a creature By its outward hue." I could be a helpful teacher And a friend to you." Beverly said, "That is true, And we shall be your friend. You're quite cute all red and blue, On us you can depend." Pig then said he had a plan For something else to do. Round and round his house he ran With curly tail of blue. "Let's go find a muddy spot Where we can splash and play." "Thanks, friend pig, we'd rather not, We really cannot stay." Beverly and Andrew said Goodbye to their new friend. "You are lovely, blue and red, But now the rhyme must end.
