Fred the Mole | ||
| Andrew and Christopher went for a stroll. Soon they encountered a kind-looking mole. "What is your name, please," the two brothers said. Nodding politely, he said "It is Fred." "Why are you burrowing deep in the ground?" Fred said "I hope there is treasure around." Andrew and Christopher's eyes opened wide. "Make the whole larger, and we'll come inside." "Okay," said Fred, and he started to dig, Using his four tiny feet as a rig. Wider and deeper his burrow became So that the boys could soon enter the same. Since they did not have an excess of girth They could descend to the depths of the earth. "Gee, it is dark here," they said with some fright. Fred solved the problem; he turned on a light. They saw a table, some chairs and a bed. "This is my wife, Margarita," said Fred. "Sit down," she offered, "and don't be afraid. Here is a glass of some cold lemonade." Christopher said, "It is pleasant down here." "Yes," said the moles, "it is cozy all year. We even have a protective alarm That will alert us to snakes that might harm." "Thanks for the drink," said the boys with a bow. "We should be getting on homeward right now." "Well," Margarita then said with a smile. "There is some cake if you'll stay for w while." "Fine," said the boys, "We can stay for a bit." But their chairs broke when they started to sit. They were so sorry they thought they would cry. Fred said, "We needed new chairs for to buy. Let's play a game!maybe hide and go seek. Close both your eyes and declare you won't peek. Then the boys did it and counted to ten. Moles had both fled when they looked up again. Andrew and Christopher each took a light. Swiftly they ran down the tunnel at right. But to their shock when they wanted to brake, Down a steep cliff they both fell in a lake. Since they could swim they both got out all right, But they had suffered a terrible fright. Then they continued their search for the moles, Scurrying quickly through all the large holes. Just then their footsteps an error did make And they ran into a hostile black snake. Backwards they ran with the snake in pursuit. Just then the moles gave a loud piercing toot. Their timely blast sent the snake on its way So that the boys could return to their play. Boys found the moles, then the moles found the boys. Each find was marked with some loud raucous noise. Then the boys said, "It is quite late, you know. We have had fun but we really must go." Fred and his wife Margarita said, "Bye. We're sad to lose you but we will not cry." Boys followed moles up into the bright sun. Then their adventure was over and done. When they recounted the day to their folks Both of the parents believed it was jokes. | ||
